ARCO Completes New Supply Chain Center and Processing Facility for Raving Fan Domino’s Pizza

ARCO COMPLETES SUPPLY CHAIN CENTER & PROCESSING FACILITY FOR RAVING FAN DOMINO’S PIZZA

This was our first time working with ARCO, and engaging with them at the beginning of the process proved to be critical to the success of our project. Their collaborative approach allowed us to work through multiple design iterations and made the transition into construction seamless.

ARCO recently completed a 59,832 SF food processing and distribution facility for Domino’s Pizza in Katy, Texas! The state-of-the-art supply chain center features automated technology including ingredient batching, mixing and portioning, weight adjustment, tray stacking, and spiral coolers, which is capable of producing up to 40 million pounds of dough annually.

Because of its complex nature and extensive automation and processing equipment, collaboration between the design team, ARCO, and processing equipment vendors needed to take place in the early stages of the project in order to ensure the most functional and cost-effective overall facility design. Utilizing our unique design-build approach, the ARCO team was able to ensure that all of the proper coordination took place in the upfront, avoiding costly change orders and schedule delays.

Check out the details below to learn more about how ARCO’s design-build methodology mitigated potential project challenges and to hear more from the client!

DOMINO’S PIZZA

59,832 SF Food Processing & Distribution Facility | Katy, Texas

The Challenge: Coordination of design, construction, and sequencing schedule for multiple process vendors requiring numerous utility and equipment connections in a confined space.

ARCO’s Design-Build Solution: Collaboration between ARCO, the Domino’s team, ARCO’s design team, and processing equipment vendors during the earliest stages of the project. This allowed for the building design to be optimized to accommodate the processing equipment design. Additionally, superior schedule management resulted in the establishment of a seamless sequencing plan for installation to ensure delays were avoided.

Domino's recently partnered with ARCO National Construction on our new 59,832 SF Supply Chain Center in Katy, Texas. This was our first time working with ARCO, and engaging with them at the beginning of the process proved to be critical to the success of our project. Their collaborative approach allowed us to work through multiple design iterations and made the transition into construction seamless. The new supply chain center, a dough facility which can produce up to 41 million pounds of dough annually, included a production room, freezer, cooler, warehouse, as well as extensive automation and processing equipment. Due to the complexities of this project, a lot of coordination regarding design and scheduling was required in the early stages. With ARCO being involved from the beginning, they were able to coordinate with the design team and our vendors to ensure that our overall facility design accommodated our processing equipment layout. Additionally, ARCO developed a strategic master schedule that included detailed sequencing to ensure all processing equipment was installed at the proper time without interfering with construction activities. Construction also took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had the potential to cause significant schedule delays. However, ARCO worked diligently to keep the project on track, ultimately finishing two weeks prior to our target date. ARCO's industry knowledge and effort to understand our business was invaluable in completing this project. On behalf of the Domino's team, I would like to thank the ARCO National team for a job well done. We couldn't be prouder of our new facility and are grateful to ARCO for the role they played in its success. We look forward to continuing our partnership on future projects.
