For Seattle-based companies expanding into high-growth markets, ARCO National Construction provides the advantage of a local team backed by the capabilities of a national design-build firm. This combination delivers the technical expertise, market knowledge, purchasing power, and subcontractor network required to execute expansion plans in major markets across the country. ARCO’s Seattle-based team recently partnered with Alpine Food Distributing, Inc., a Pacific Northwest food redistributor, to support its expansion into the rapidly growing Southern California market.
Pursuing Growth Beyond the Pacific Northwest
ARCO National Construction completed a 116,766-square-foot cold storage facility renovation for Alpine in Vernon, California. Strategically located within the Greater Los Angeles industrial corridor, the facility strengthens Alpine’s presence in Southern California and enhances its ability to meet increasing demand throughout the Southwest market.
The project was led by ARCO’s Seattle-based team, providing continuity with Alpine’s operational standards and long-term growth objectives, while leveraging ARCO’s national buying power, supplier relationships, and network of local and national subcontractors to deliver competitive pricing and maintain schedule control in a highly complex market.
ARCO’s national design-build approach and single point of responsibility enabled Alpine to expand into a new region with confidence, supported by seamless coordination from preconstruction through completion.
Improved Operational Efficiency
The renovation consisted of approximately 40,000 square feet of freezer and cooler space, including nearly 10,000 square feet of convertible space capable of operating between -10°F and 40°F, as well as a 2,455-square-foot production cooler dedicated to produce processing. The facility also features more than 50,000 square feet of ambient storage to support diversified inventory needs.
The project consolidates and expands Alpine’s processing and handling operations, increasing production capacity and product availability to serve growing consumer, restaurant, and business demand throughout Southern California and beyond.
The Design-Build Advantage
ARCO’s design-build delivery method integrates design and construction under a single contract, providing cost control, schedule certainty, and clear accountability. For Alpine’s expansion into Southern California, this approach ensured early alignment between facility requirements, budget parameters, and operational objectives.
By combining local leadership from the Seattle team with national design-build resources, ARCO delivered a facility that supports Alpine’s continued growth while reducing risk and maintaining performance standards across markets.
