ARCO National Construction’s Kansas City division delivered the Grundfos Regional Headquarters, a 41,205-square-foot, LEED certified, Class A office facility in Lenexa, Kansas, designed to serve as a regional hub for the global pump manufacturer. Beyond providing modern office space, training areas, and collaborative work environments, the project incorporates an advanced sustainability strategy tailored to reduce energy use, improve operational efficiency, and reflect Grundfos’ commitment to environmental stewardship.

By integrating innovative mechanical systems, ground-source geothermal technology, and energy-recovering ventilation systems, ARCO partnered with Grundfos and design stakeholders to create a facility that supports both corporate performance and long-term environmental goals.

Sustainable Design Intent and Global Collaboration

Sustainability drove key design and construction decisions for the Grundfos Regional Headquarters from the outset. ARCO worked directly with Grundfos to deliver a facility that meets operational requirements while advancing the company’s global sustainability standards.

ARCO coordinated closely with Grundfos’ headquarters in Denmark to integrate corporate branding, performance criteria, and sustainability objectives into both building systems and architectural elements. This global collaboration ensured the Lenexa facility aligns with Grundfos’ worldwide standards for efficiency, functionality, and corporate identity.

Energy-Efficient Mechanical Systems

A central element of the project’s sustainable design focus is its green mechanical system, which incorporates energy-recovering ventilation and supplemental heating and cooling optimized for operational efficiency. The system includes a ground source heat pump with a heat exchange coil tied into the detention basin and geothermal wells, enabling significant reductions in energy consumption compared to conventional HVAC systems.

Passive and Active Site Efficiency

The mechanical strategy was complemented by passive and active measures that enhance building performance. A 60-mil mechanically attached roof system provides durable protection and supports thermal performance, while load-bearing tilt-up walls create an efficient thermal envelope that contributes to reduced heating and cooling loads throughout the year.

Functional Spaces with Sustainable Impact

While sustainability was a priority, ARCO also delivered a highly functional workplace designed to support Grundfos’ operational needs. The facility includes open office areas, multiple conference and breakout rooms, a café, and training areas for national vendors and installers. Support spaces such as a call center, recreation room with basketball court, employee gym, and soundproof rooms further enhance staff experience and productivity.

Resilient Infrastructure and Operational Support

To support continuous business operations, the building features a 3,000-amp electrical service with generator backup for IT systems, ensuring resilience in critical systems. The facility also includes a SEVO clean agent fire suppression system installed in server rooms to protect essential equipment while minimizing environmental impact.

Combined with a secure access control system and multiple loading dock doors equipped with mechanical levelers, dock seals, and lighting, the infrastructure supports both daily operations and emergency readiness, all while maintaining sustainability goals.

Recognition and Long-Term Value

The Grundfos Regional Headquarters stands as an example of ARCO’s ability to deliver sophisticated facilities where sustainable performance and functional excellence coexist. By aligning mechanical innovation with operational resiliency and occupant experience, ARCO delivered a headquarters that supports Grundfos’ strategic goals while enhancing long-term efficiency and environmental responsibility.
