ARCO National Construction has completed a 22,998-square-foot freight expansion for NorthBridge and a confidential end user in Northborough, Massachusetts. The project expands the existing distribution facility with new dock capacity, truck maintenance space, and operational support areas while maintaining uninterrupted operations throughout construction.
The expansion includes a new 11,206-square-foot dock addition, a 1,012-square-foot precast concrete dock office pod, and a new truck maintenance facility totaling 10,780 square feet. The maintenance area features a 960-square-foot wash bay, a 960-square-foot lube distribution system, 2,450 square feet of office space, and 6,500 square feet dedicated to tractor-trailer service bays.
Constructed using a pre-engineered metal building with a standing seam metal roof system, the project also included continuous footings with stem walls and pilasters to support the facility's long-term operational requirements.
To enhance distribution capabilities, ARCO installed 21 new dock doors with edge-of-dock levelers, a new 1,200 amp electrical service, and infrastructure for 35 forklift chargers to support material handling operations.
A key component of the project was careful coordination with the owner and facility personnel to ensure existing freight and distribution operations remained uninterrupted throughout construction. Through detailed phasing and close collaboration, ARCO successfully delivered the expansion while allowing the facility to continue serving customers without disruption.
The completed project provides NorthBridge and the end user with expanded freight handling capacity, enhanced fleet maintenance capabilities, and infrastructure designed to support continued operational growth.
