COLD STORAGE RENOVATION IN RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA

Designed and built for a national grocery retailer, this warehouse is a 1,400,000-total-square-foot freezer/cooler distribution facility renovation.

This project involved a 1,400,000 SF cold storage renovation for a national grocery retailer, combined with 840,000 SF of dry warehouse improvements. Work also included the conversion of 520,000 SF to cold storage. The buildout featured insulated metal panel (IMP) box-in-box construction and a central ammonia refrigeration system to maintain strict temperature requirements across multiple zones.

Cold storage areas included:
• 30,000 SF -10°F freezer
• 110,000 SF 0°F freezer
• 40,000 SF 32°F cooler
• 210,000 SF 34°F–36°F cooler
• 70,000 SF 36°F cold dock
• 50,000 SF 55°F cooler

The facility also incorporated 60,000 SF of office space and cold storage areas with 38’ clear height for maximum racking capacity. Loading operations were upgraded with 68 new dock positions outfitted for cold-service applications, 54 new dock pits, and 330 battery charging stations to support material handling equipment.

Safety and specialized storage requirements were addressed with high hazard aerosol and oil storage cages. Electrical capacity was expanded through the installation of three new 4,000-amp electrical services. The project required a phased consolidation of multiple existing facilities into one operational hub, executed without disrupting ongoing operations.
