ARCO National Construction has completed Phase 1 of a two-phase cold storage renovation project for Performance Food Group in Portland, Oregon. Upon completion of both phases, the full project will total 141,024 square feet, supporting expanded cold storage and distribution capabilities for the region.
Phase 1 included the renovation of 130,113 square feet within an existing facility, delivering a modernized cold storage and dry warehouse environment designed to enhance operational efficiency and temperature-controlled performance. The renovation included 83,481 square feet of dry warehouse space, 15,684 square feet of 34°F cooler space, and a 15,534-square-foot office.
Additional temperature-controlled areas include a 5,715-square-foot 40°F cold dock, a 4,330-square-foot 28°F freezer, a 3,541-square-foot 55°F cooler, and a 1,828-square-foot 45°F cooler. The facility features 32-foot clear height and includes 13 new vertical cold storage dock positions, as well as one drive-in ramp to support distribution operations.
The renovation incorporated box-in-box construction and a transcritical CO2 refrigeration system to support high-performance cooling and energy efficiency. Building infrastructure upgrades included new 3,000 amp and 1,200 amp electrical services with a mobile generator cabinet. Fire protection improvements include a new 2,000 GPM electric fire pump and an exterior pump house.
Phase 1 represents a significant step in Performance Food Group’s broader investment in modernizing its Portland operations, enhancing capacity and cold storage capabilities to support long-term distribution growth.
